Lára was the daughter of Jón Jónasson and Ágústa Jóhannesdóttir, pioneer settlers in the Shoal Lake Settlement. Jón was the son of Jón Jónasson at Þjófsstaðir in Núpasveit. He is registered as Jónasson in the west.
