Margrét came west to Winnipeg in 1893 but her parents, Daníel Sigurðsson and Kristjana Jörundsdóttir, and her siblings came a year later. Magnús had arrived there in 1887 with his parents and siblings. He soon got a job building a railway on the western plains, but then moved to the Lundar Settlement in 1889, the same year his parents went there. They lived there all the time.
