He came west to Ontario with his parents and siblings in 1874. His life’s path led him to Winnipeg, Manitoba. Then, Guðmundur took land in the Akra Settlement in N. Dakota in 1883 but stopped farming in 1889 and moved back to Winnipeg a year later. He lived in the city until 1907 when he moved west to the Pacific and settled in Vancouver.
