They came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1883. With them was Jóhann’s father, Jóhann Hannibal, b. 1814. They settled in New Iceland and lived there for six years, then moved to Selkirk. Jóhann lost his sight and became blind in both eyes. He went to his sons Jónas and Gunnlaugur who lived in Winnipegosis.
