Kristín was the daughter of Þórðar Gunnarsson and Auður Grímsdóttir, who came west in 1882 and settled in the Thingvalla Settlement in N. Dakota. Gunnar came west before the turn of the century and moved to the Icelandic community in N. Dakota. He married Kristín there and they moved to Winnipegosis and lived there a number of years. They moved from there to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan and settled in Wynyard.
