Guðbjartur came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1902. He lived there for three years, Then moved west to the cost where he worked in house construction in various locations. He settled in Blaine, Washington in 1907 and lived there after that. Ingibjörg came west to Winnipeg in 1900 with her widowed mother, María Gísladóttir. They settled in the city.
