He came west to Winnipeg in 1887 and moved south in the same year to N. Dakota where he spent the first winter. He next moved west to Calgary where he lived but worked in Klettafjöll. He continued westward in 1889, settling in Victoria, Vancouver Island, British Columbia. He returned to Iceland in 1905 and stayed there until 1912, then he returned west to Victoria. He drowned while fishing for salmon.
