Erlendur Gíslason was born in Húnavatnssýsla on March 13, 1856. He died on January 28, 1945 in Burnaby, B.C. He is registered as Edward Gislason Gillies in the west.

Erlendur came west to Canada in 1882 and took lank in the South Cypress district on August 24, 1889. Farming did not suit him, so he moved to Winnipeg, where he worked as a blacksmith. The couple later moved west to the Pacific Ocean, first living in Bellingham, Washington and later in Vancouver, British Columbia.
