Magnús Steinsson was born in Skagafjarðarsýsla in 1861.
Spouse: 1890 in Calgary, Ásta Salvör Þorvarðardóttir b. in Ísafjarðarsýsla in 1857.

Magnús came west to Winnipeg in 1883 and worked in various locations in Manitoba, mostly in railroad work. He moved west to Calgary in 1890, married that year, and then took land in the Alberta settlement near Burnt Lake a year later. It did not turn out well, he returned the land and next moved west to the Medicine River where he once lived. In 1898 he took land west of the river and lived there until 1907, sold it and moved north to the town of Ponoka. He worked as a railroad worker after that. Ásta Salvör came west to Manitoba in 1888.
