They came west to Canada in 1888 and Sigurður moved to N. Dakota to his sister, Hallfríður Magnúsdóttir, and her husband, Þórarinn Guðmundsson. He moved west to Calgary with them and Sigurður married Anna Kristín there. In 1894, Sigurður built a house on his land in the Icelandic settlement, but later moved and settled a little further north. They lived there after that.
