Þorsteinn Jónsson was born on November 9, 1888 in the Árnes Settlement in New Iceland. He died on February 6, 1944 in Winnipeg. He had the name Thorsteinn Stone in the west.

Spouse: December 28, 1914 Margrét Jónsdóttir b. in Narrows, Manitoba on December 4, 1892. She took the last name Stone with marriage. She died on August 24, 1949.

Children: 1. Timothy b. February 5, 1919 2. Clifford b. November 22, 1921 3. George b. April 6, 1927 4. Margaret b. August 31, 1929 5. Dorothy b. September 14, 1932, all were born in Winnipeg.

Þorsteinn was the son of Jón Þorsteinsson of Mýrasýsla and his wife Solveig Bjarnadóttir from Gufuskálum, who came west in 1886 and settled in Manitoba. Margrét was the daughter of Jón Sigurðsson and Pálína Þórðardóttir who came west in 1888; she used the last name Sigurðson until marriage. They settled in Narrows on northern Lake Manitoba and that is where Margrét grew up.  Margrét attended a teacher’s school in Winnipeg and was a teacher in the community. There she met Þorsteinn, who later became the director of the T. Eaton retail company’s freight department. They lived there the rest of their lives.
