Fanney Victoria Jóhannsdóttir was born in Winnipeg on September 6, 1912.

Fanney was the daughter of Jóhann Magnússon and Ólöf Össurardóttir who came west in 1911. Ingi was the son of Kristján Stefánsson and Rannveig Eiríksdóttir who were married in Winnipeg in 1907. They were farmers in Vestfold in the Shoal Lake Settlement (Grunnavatnsbyggð) where Ingi grew up. He moved from there to Winnipeg and lived there many years. Fanney and Ingi were in Ontario 1940 – 1943, then moved to Winnipeg and lived there.
