Steinþóra’s parents were Benjamín Benjamínsson who came west in 1920 and Helga Jósefsdóttir of Dalasýsla. Benjamín was a farmer in Otto in the Shoal Lake Settlement (Grunnavatnsbyggð). Finnbogi was the son of Finnbogi Þorgilsson and Málfríður Jónsdóttir, pioneer settlers in the Shoal Lake Settlement (Grunnavatnsbyggð) in 1886. Finnbogi and Steinþóra lived in Eriksdale, Manitoba.
