Sigurjón Jónasson was born on April 15, 1871 in Eyjafjarðarsýsla. He died on October 21, 1954 in the Lundar Settlement in Manitoba.

Sigurjón moved to Manitoba in 1891 and went to the home of his mother, Ólafia Sigurðardóttir, and her second husband, Bjarni Guðmundsson. Sigurjón was there for 11 years and became a fisherman. In 1902 he settled in Poplar Park where he lived for five years. He moved to Mary Hill just a short distance from Lundar in 1907. He was a farmer and a fisherman for the rest of his life. Jóhanna was the daughter of Einar Guðmundsson Borgfjörð from Borgarfjörður east and Þórstína Þorsteinsdóttir who came west to Minnesota in 1890.
