Hans’ parents were Halldór Friðriksson, head instructor in Reykjavík, and Caroline Charlotte Leopoldina of Danish descent. Þórstína Þorleifsdóttir reports on the doctor in her book, “Saga Íslendinga i N. Dakota”. It says:
“He attended Reykjavík School in the fall of 1869 and graduated from there in 1874 with highest honors. Went to Khafnar in the fall and started studying medicine at the university. He graduated from there in the spring of 1882 with 2nd honors; spent the next year in the maternity ward. Spent three consecutive years in hospitals in Höfn. In the fall of 1882 (?) he was appointed a doctor in the Danish navy and served in that position for 2 years. In 1883 he married Miss Jóhanna Birgitta Herazceh. Her father was a gunsmith in Höfn. Her sister is married Prof. Finnur Jónsson. The couple had three sons and two daughters. In the spring of 1892, Dr. Halldórsson went to the West and settled in Park River and stayed there until his death. He died on October 19, 1911, aged 57. Dr. Halldórsson had unfailing perseverance, and he was very well liked by Norwegians as well as Icelanders in the counties of the northern part of Dakota. He took a considerable part in politics and was elected ”Coroner” for Walsh County and served in that position for many years. He left behind many publications, both medical and nature.”
