Hjörleifur Traustason came to the Garðar settlement with his parents when he was eight years old in 1883. There he received a public-school education and decided to become a doctor. He went to Grand Forks for further education and attended college there. He finished his degree in medicine and went to Chicago where he worked for a few years. From there, he made his way to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he lived for the longest time. (SÍND)
