Guðmundur Þórðarson

Vesturfarar

Guðmundur P Þórðarson went to Eyrarbakki when he was young, where he worked for three years in a shop. He moved from there to Copenhagen and studied baking. After completing his studies, he moved to Sauðárkrókur where he worked as a baker and later at the same trade in Ísafjörður. When he went west to Winnipeg in 1887, he decided to pursue that trade. He moved to the village of Deloraine where he baked and did well. He then moved to Winnipeg and worked there at his own bakery.

Deloraine was not a big city when Guðmundur and Jóhanna settled there, but there he baked his first bread in Manitoba. Photo: Prairie Towns
