Jón Júlíus followed the path of education, studied commerce and devoted his life to business. He ran his own real estate firm, J. J. Swanson & Co., in Winnipeg for years. He took part in Western Icelandic social affairs in Winnipeg, sat on the board of Columbia Press, the Icelandic publishing company.
