Sveinn Brynjólfsson

Vesturfarar

Sveinn Brynjólfsson became the agent for the Canadian government in Iceland in 1891. In the same year, he traveled around the main Icelandic settlements in Canada so that he could better describe them to interested people back in Iceland. He settled in Winnipeg in 1893 but was the representative in Iceland in the years 1901-1903 and then in 1905 he seems to have traveled there on a mission to introduce Western Canada and take care of transporting people there. He was a trained stonemason and soon began to learn about the construction industry in the city. He undertook the construction of various buildings in the city, both residential and commercial buildings. One of his most significant buildings in the city was undoubtedly the Warwick Apartments, built in 1909.
