When Canadian soldiers returned home after the Second World War, they were offered a course in agronomy, and Albert Kristjanson was the teacher. This was in the years 1950-1951, after which Albert was a professor at the University of Washington on the Pacific Ocean. There he worked on research on the social conditions of the elderly and produced a report that attracted a lot of attention, “Study of the adjustment of the aged”. He returned to Winnipeg in 1959, settled down there and worked for the provincial government as a social and economist from 1959 to 1967. From 1967 until retirement, he was professor of sociology at the University of Manitoba.
