Jón Aðalsteinn Jónsson began university studies at Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon. He earned a BA degree there in 1926, an M.A. degree from the University of Washington in Seattle in 1929, and a PhD from Stanford University in California. He taught world history at Linfield College from 1931 except during World War II. He wrote articles for newspapers and magazines, both about history and educational issues. His two publications were Bricks without Straw, published by Caxton Press in 1938 and U.S. Army Forces in World War II, published in Chicago in 1958.
