Daníel Grímsson Laxdal entered the University of Decorah, Iowa in 1883 and graduated from there in 1888. He took a job at the law firm of W. J. Kneeshaw where he studied law. He took a final exam in those studies in 1890. He opened a law office with Magnús Brynjólfsson in Cavalier, N. Dakota where they practiced together for a few years, but Daniel then joined the public sector and was a supervisor of public lands for years.
