In the publication “Framhald Á Sixtíu Ára Afmælis Bók”, which deals with the history of the Álftavatn (Swan Lake) and Grunnavatn (Shoal Lake) settlements and was published in Winnipeg in 1950, it says about Rev. Guðmund Árnason on page 189:
“Séra Guðmundur was one of the most popular leaders of Icelanders in the West. He was respected by all for his prudence, frankness, and healthy influence. He was very involved in all the social issues of Icelanders. He was eloquent and loyal on all issues and enjoyed the friendship of people from all factions and classes more than other Icelandic leader. He was without a doubt one of the most literate men among the Western Icelanders. There are quite a few essays and translated stories written by him, and also quite a few poetry translations. But the memory of Reverend Guðmund will live the longest, as the noble and faithful scholar who fought the good fight for freedom and justice.”
