Albert K Jónsson was successful from the beginning in Winnipeg. He arrived there in 1887 and initially worked in various shop jobs, but when Lögberg started publishing, he started printing the paper. Trade and business still occupied his mind, and it wasn’t long before he opened his own meat shop in the city. He made a good profit at it and then moved out the meat cases and started selling real estate. He built a large house on the corner of Young St. and Sargent Ave. in 1905, which was then considered one of the largest houses of its kind that an Icelander had built in Winnipeg. There were shops on the ground floor and apartments on the upper floors.
