Bergvin Jónsson settled in Winnipeg in 1882 and after working as a laborer, he opened a clothing store and ran it until 1889. Then he moved with his mother and his brother Halldór to Seattle. He continued his business there until 1898 when he went north to the Klondike. He was there for a only short time because at the turn of the century, he went south to California with Halldór. From there he made his way to Winkelman, Arizona, where he once again opened a store and operated it until his death.
