Björn Pétursson settled in Winnipeg in 1903 and started a shop and house building business there. In 1911, he undertook a large project on Agnes St. in the city and built a large house there in company with Thorstein Th. Thorsteinsson They called their mansion Vesta and it had 20 apartments. Björn built more and once owned several such buildings and was considered one of the wealthiest Icelanders in the city.
