Hannes and Ólaf’s advertisements appeared regularly in the Icelandic newspapers, the connections with the country were valuable. Both were very involved in Icelandic society and briefly in various ways.
Hannes Pétursson came to Winnipeg shortly after the turn of the century and got a job in a bank. Soon he saw an opportunity in business and became a real estate agent. He founded a company, Union Loan and Investment Co. and his brothers Björn and Rögnvaldur were members for a while. Later, his brother Ólafur joined him, and they worked together quite a bit. Buy lots, build apartment buildings, and either sell or rent apartments. All the brothers succeeded in this business, and Hannes was for a long time in the leading group of financial administrators in the city.
