Jón Björn Guðbrandsson was born in Dalasýsla on August 20, 1873. Child. Jón Björn was the son of Guðbrandur Guðbrandsson the elder at Leiðólfsstaðir and Kristín Bjarnadóttir. His father died before Jón was born, but Kristín later married Bjarni Jónsson and they came west to Manitoba in 1883 and settled in New Iceland. Jón Björn was with them.
