MacNutt, Saskatchewan, is not far from Manitoba and was officially named February 22, 1913. It is named after Thomas MacNutt, who was born in New Brunswick on August 3, 1850. He moved west to the plains and was elected to sit in the Canadian parliament representing Saskatchewan in 1905. He was also elected to the Saskatchewan provincial government. The village has always been small and only one Icelander is known to have lived there. His name was Jóhann Pétur Ólafsson (Johann Peter Anderson in the west) b. July 15, 1894, d. August 12, 1946. He was the son of Ólafur Andrésson and Guðrún Þorleifsdóttir from Skagafjarðarsýsla. They came west in 1888 and settled in the Lögberg Settlement in Saskatchewan. He was a postmaster in the village for 16 years.
