Björn Ólafur Björnsson came to the West in 1900 and stayed in Winnipeg with his wife and children until 1904. That year he moved to Mikley and in 1906 he took on mail transport to and from the island. Not only did he carry mail to and from Mikley, but also from the village of Bad Throat River east of Lake Winnipeg. On one trip in 1910 this happened. Þorleifur Jóakimsson wrote in “Frá Austri til Vestur” (From East to West): He drowned on November 22, 1910. Came from the south from Hnausa with fishing nets, which he was collecting for his neighbor. Drove along the road until he reached Sandnes, then went out to the lake and planned to follow it the rest of the way to Breiðabólsstaðir, where he lived. When he was nearing Bjarg, he changed his direction a little inland; then the ice broke, the deep seized him. The body was recovered the next morning.

Dream: A woman in the Ísafold settlement (Ísafoldarbyggð), Katrín by name, who had met Björn, had a dream shortly after he drowned. She thought she saw him in white clothes: she asked him to sing something for her, and she thought he immediately sang a verse that she learned in her sleep:
