VÍÆ V says this of Björn: “His education started at Wesley College in Winnipeg. He obtained a law degree from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg in 1915 and joined the Canadian Air Force the same year. There he studied aviation and was a senior officer in the Canadian Air Force during the First World War. He was shot down in May 1918 and was mortally wounded but recovered after a few years. He was one of the founders of the Winnipeg law firm of Lindal, Buhr and Stefansson and worked there for many years. Was chairman of the Conservative Party in Winnipeg and a candidate for Parliament in 1940. Re-enlisted that year in the Canadian Air Force, one of the few known to have served in both World Wars. In 1941 he was appointed Superintendent of the Special Pilot Training School at Virden, Man. and held that position until the end of the war. He then became Land Registry Supervisor at the Registry Office in Carman, Man. Also Chief of Police and Assistant Juvenile Court Judge. Took an active part in the affairs of the Winnipeg Icelanders in his days.”
