Breiðablik

Vesturfarar

The Reverend Friðrik J. Bergmann took over the editing of the magazine Breiðablik, which was first published in June in 1906. It was published monthly for eight years, its last issue was published in May 1914. The publisher was Ólafur S. Thorgeirsson and his printing house did the printing. Tryggvi J. Oleson wrote: “Breiðablik was in a large eight-page fold, 16 pages in size and with a decorative cover.” It was described as a monthly publication “in support of Icelandic culture”. In the first issue, the publisher addresses the readers in this way: ”Breiðablik willingly strives to support everything that could be done for the promotion and advancement of Icelandic culture.” But the editor gets to the point: “And we wanted to support that compassion between journalists and parties grows stronger, but agitations and party rancor to be stamped out and disappear.”
