They moved to the West in 1899 and lived for seven years in Manitoba. In 1907 they went west to the Pacific and settled at Point Roberts, Washington. There, Ingvar bought land from Árni Mýrdal, about 112 acres. In 1915, Ingvar built an elegant house on the highest part of his land in the southeast part of the peninsula. Ingvar practiced agriculture on part of the land, but used the forest that grew in other parts of the land and sold firewood for a long time.
