Christopher grew up in the Lakes settlement area (Vatnabyggð) and started working with farmers at a young age. Guðrún was the daughter of Pétur Hallgrímmur Thorlacius and Guðrún Margrét Jónsdóttir. Pétur was born in Garðar, N. Dakota, while Guðrún Margrét was born in Iceland.
