Marlín was son of Gísli Pétur Magnússon, who emigrated West with his parents, Magnús Guðlaugsson and Hólmfríður Jónsdóttir from Húnavatnssýsla. Gísli was a printer and bookbinder who published numerous books, magazines, and articles in Gimli. Marlín followed in his father´s footsteps, printed and publised and wrote many articles published both in English and Icelandic pblications. Hið sjötta tómt was published in Winnipeg 1932 and Nýjar rúnir in Akureyri 1978.
