Emily Was the daughter of John Arthur Moore b. in Scotland and his wife, Guðbjörg Friðgerður Sigurðardóttir. Her foster parents were Jóhannes Pétursson and Salome Jónatansdóttir. Emily emigrated with them. Not clear for how long she lived with them. Farquhar was in the British Army in World War 1 and attended a teacher´s college in Scotland. After graduation he moved to Canada and became a teacher. Emily worked in a post office, drove a taxi for some time and worked in a grocery store. She later worked for the Canadian Red Cross and home for the elderly.
