Alda Pálsson was born in Winnipeg on July 21, 1919.

Unmarried and childless.

Alda was the daughter of Jónas Pálsson, a musician, and Emily Helga Baldvinsdóttir, who lived in New Westminster, British Columbia. Alda followed her parents from Winnipeg, first to Calgary, Alberta, then west to Vancouver, and finally to New Westminster. There she received piano instruction from a famous pianist named Lubka Kolessa. In addition, Dr. Arnold Walter taught her composition. Her great talent soon became apparent, and she received an award and a total of four scholarships to the Royal School of Music in London. She gave concerts widely, both in the United States and Canada. In the latter part of her life, she was head of the music department at Havergal College in Toronto.
