Arnbjörg Svanhvít Þorsteinsdóttir was born in the Westman Islands (Vestmannaeyjar) on August 3, 1898.
Spouse: December 2, 1922 Jóhann Þorvaldur Beck b. in S. Múlasýsla on February 9, 1900.
Children: 1. Hans Raymond b. September 21, 1925 2. Richard Leonard b. April 14, 1927 3. Jóhanna Violet b. November 29, 1928 4. Allan Ágúst b. December 21, 1932.
Arnbjörg came west with her parents, Þorsteinn Guðnason and María Magnúsdóttir, who came west from Garðfjós in Vestmannaeyjar in 1903. Jóhann came west to Winnipeg in 1919, worked at Lögberg’s printing house and became the director of the publishing company Columbia Press in the city. He was very involved in the social affairs of his countrymen in the city, worked in the Good Templar Order, sang with the men’s choir of Icelanders and the choir of the First Lutheran Church, was in the National League of Icelanders (Þjóðræknisfélagi Íslendinga) and a member of the Icelandic Canadian Club. He was the full brother of Dr. Richard Beck, Professor.
