Ástríður Einarsdóttir was born in E. Skaftafellssýsla on January 24, 1887. She died on May 30, 1957. She was known as Asta in the west.

Magnús was the son of Gísli Árnason and Dýrunn Steinsdóttir of Skagafjörður, early settlers in New Iceland. He was a farmer in the Framnes settlement and bought the land of Percy C. Jónasson in the Víðir settlement. Ástríður came west with her parents, Einar Stefánsson and Lovísa Benediktsdóttir in 1904.
