Dr. Böðvar was the son of Böðvar H. Jakobsson and Guðlaugur Eyjólfsdóttir, early settlers in New Iceland in Manitoba. He earned a medical degree at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg in 1954. He first practiced at the Deer Lodge hospital and later at Grace hospital in Winnipeg. Sigrún was the daughter of Kristjón Sigurðsson and Indiana Sveinsdóttir, early settlers in the Geysir settlement in Manitoba. she earned a B.A. degree from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg in 1948.
