Edward Þórarinsson was born in N. Múlasýsla on September 18, 1901. He died at Betel in Gimli 1986. He was known as Eddi Gíslason in the west.
Unmarried and childless.
He was the son of Þórarinn Gíslason and Friðrika Soffía Guðnadóttir, early settlers in the Árfals settlement, a short distance from Arborg in New Iceland. He followed in his father’s footsteps, was a successful farmer near Arborg. Eddi Gísli, as he was traditionally called, always preserved his Icelandic origins, spoke good Icelandic and enjoyed the presence of students from Iceland at the University of Manitoba. In 1982, he donated $50,000.00 to the Canada Iceland Foundation for the maintenance and promotion of Icelandic cultural heritage in the West.
