Einar came to the West in 1903, with his parents, Jón Hallgrímsson and Sigríður Guðvaldsdóttir. They first lived in Roseau, Minnesota but moved in 1918 to Minneota and lived there. Einar studied carpentry and spent some time in Winnipeg, Elfros in the Lakes settlement (Vatnabyggð), and Seattle, Washington. He lived in Minneota from 1926 until his death. He served on the town council for 11 years and was mayor 1945-1950.
