Einvarður was the son of Þórarinn Guðlaugsson and Halldóra Þorbjörg Einvarðsdóttir in Lundar. He completed elementary school there, went to business school in Winnipeg, and after that he returned and opened a car dealership and machine shop in Lundar. He was in the army from 1916-1919.
