Fanney Teitsdóttir was born in Winnipeg on September 14, 1888.

Fanney was the daughter of Teitur Ingimundarson and Júlíana Guðmundsdóttir who came west in 1887. Stefán’s parents were Eymundur Jónsson and Halldóra Stefánsdóttir, who came west in 1903; Stefán had come west a year earlier. The family settled in Pine Valley, Manitoba. Stefán’s parents returned to Iceland 4 years later, but he stayed on in Manitoba for nearly 40 years. He moved west to Vancouver in 1941. Stefán did carpentry for a while, then worked on car and electrical repairs. He was the president of the Íslendingadagurinn Committee for many years and was always an active member of the Icelandic National League. He was president of its Vancouver chapter for several years.
