Gísli Pétur Magnússon was born on June 8, 1880 in Húnavatnssýsla. He died on October 9, 1967.

Gísli came to the West in 1883 with his parents, Magnús Guðlaugsson and Hólmfríður Jónsdóttir. They settled in Manitoba. Gísli learned book binding and printing. He ran a printing press on Gimli, Maple Leaf Printing and Publishing Co. and put out the papers “Gimlungur” and “Heimilisvinurinn”. He became more involved, “The Weekly Observer” was published in Ashern and “Dagrenning” in Winnipeg. In the last years he lived in Lundar, where he printed and published a weekly newspaper with his son Marlin.
