Guðrún Björnsdóttir was born in S. Múlasýsla on May 25, 1883. She died in Eriksdale, Manitoba in 1970.

Ólafur came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba with his parents, Halli Ólafsson and Guðrún Kristana Björnsdóttir in 1903. He returned to Iceland in 1907 and worked as a shopkeeper in Reykjavík. He came west with his wife and two children in 191o and opened a store in Eriksdale, Manitoba the same year and ran it until 1953. He built the first apartment building where the village of Eriksdale was born. He was very involved in social issues, sat on the school committee, parish committee and was on the board of the Icelandic National League for seven years. He wrote many songs and wrote articles for West Icelandic newspapers and magazines.
