Guðrún Hjörleifsdóttir was born in W. Skaftafellssýsla on November 6, 1865. She died on August 10, 1945.

Spouse: 1887 Jóhann Magnús Bjarnason b. in S. Múlasýsla on May 24, 1866, d. September 8, 1945 in Elfros, Saskatchewan.

Children: Foster children Alice Juliet. Guðrún and Jóhann took the child in when she was four months old. She had an English father and mother’s name was Jónína Stefánsdóttir. Jónína came west in 1878 from S. Þingeyjarsýsla.

Jóhann came west with his parents in 1875 and the family moved to Markland, Nova Scotia. Jóhann moved to Winnipeg in 1882. He was hired as a teacher in Árnes, New Iceland, in 1889, but in 1894 he took land in the Geysir settlement, named it Arnheiðastaðir, and lived there for nine years. He taught in N. Dakota in 1904-05 and then in many places in Canada. He settled in Elfros in 1922.
