Guðrún Sigurðardóttir was born in Mýrasýsla on August 10, 1874. She died in Winnipeg on May 24, 1962.
Spouse: 1905 Guðjón Magnússon b. in Barrie, Ontario on September 15, 1877. d. in Cypress River, Manitoba on July 7, 1942. He took the last name Ruth in the west.
Children: 1. Roy Herbert b. in Winnipeg on January 21, 1907 2. Lawrence Alfred b. Cypress River, Manitoba on November 29, 1908.
Guðrún came west alone to Winnipeg in 1898. Guðjón was the son of Guðmundur Magnússon and Helga Jónsdóttir, early settlers in Manitoba. They were first in Ontario for three years, moved from there to Winnipeg where they lived 4 years. They acquired land after 4 years near the Cypress River. Guðjón later acquired land there and gradually expanded his landholding through purchases until he owned 640 acres. Guðjón took the name Ruth like his father.
