Guðveig Jónsdóttir was born on May 16, 1858 in Mýrasýsla. She died on September 24, 1946 at Betel in Gimli.

Guðveig came west 1889 with a boy and his uncle, Jón Þorvarðarson (J. J. Swanson in the west). She married Bjarni Árnason in the west. Egill came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1897. where he and Guðveig lived until the spring of 1917, when Egill bought two parcels of land on Big Point on Lake Manitoba that Ólafur Hannesson had owned. They lived there until 1924, but then moved to Gimli.
