Halldór Hannesson was born in Gullbringusýsla in 1898.

Halldór was the son of Hannes Erlendsson and Jóhanna Magnúsdóttir, who came west in 1900 to Manitoba. The publication “A Tribute to Soldiers and Pioneers of the Langruth District” says that they came to the settlement the same year with Halldóra, their daughter. Halldór is not mentioned anywhere in the publication and not even in Almanak 1927 p. 39 where the family is mentioned in Halldór Daníelsson’s entry. In all likelihood, Halldór died on the way, either across the Atlantic or from Ontario to Manitoba.
